Book Review - Dry as Rain by Gina Holmes

Summary

Eric Yoshida has worked hard to provide a great living for his family – but at what cost? Over the years he distanced himself from the wife he meant to spend the rest of his life with, finally committing the ultimate betrayal of their love.

All seems to be over until Kyra loses part of her memory in a car crash. Will Eric have a second chance at love? Or will Kyra remember his wrongdoing and ask him to leave forever?

My Review

Gina Holmes delivers another heartfelt story in Dry as Rain. Although this one didn’t bring me to tears like Crossing Oceans did, I enjoyed reading Dry as Rain. It evoked a desire to give Eric a good talking to, yet it produced a yearning for Kyra to find forgiveness, as well.

Tackling the issue of adultery, Gina didn’t water it down, make excuses for it, or glorify it. She told it like it is. Not every story has a happy ending, and I applaud her realistic look at a marriage gone wrong. There is no fluff in this novel, and that elevates her as a true storyteller in my eyes. She didn’t candy coat the circumstances surrounding her characters. They are incredibly believable, and reading the novel played like a movie in my mind.

I highly recommend Gina Holmes’ novels. If you are looking for women’s fiction dealing with real life issues and an honest, believable approach to them, her books are for you.

  1. I loved crossing oceans! I didn't realize she had another one out. I will definitely have to read this one as well.

  2. There was one time in my life when I was terrified to tell someone the truth. My precious son was struggling with collegiate academics. Even though he was an honor student in science at a prestigious university, it took him two to three times longer than everyone else to read his assignments. This was exhausting and frustrating to him, so over the Christmas break, we had him "professionally" tested in an attempt to learn why he struggled so terribly. The testing agent told me, at a personal cost of $1500, that my son wasn't college material, that he got into college on a fluke. She said my son had a low IQ. Now, as a special education teacher, I KNEW that she was wrong about his intelligence and his ability to be in college. So when my son asked me what IQ score the tester had determined for him, I could not bear to tell him for fear my son would accept her findings as truth and give up. As a Christian, it nearly killed me to tell a lie, but I knew my son would be crushed. So I told him that she found him to be incredibly gifted. He went on to graduate from college with honors in science and is now a student in medical school. We learned this summer that he truly is incredibly gifted.

  3. I'm afraid to tell people the truth all the time - not about the big things, but the little things. The "do you like this shirt" or "what do you think of this paint color" kind of questions. I so don't want to hurt their feelings by being honest about my own.

  4. When I was about 4 and playing in front of my parent's mobile home, one of the neighborhood boys pushed my neighbor girl down onto the gravel driveway. I reacted rather intensely and went over to stand in front of him. He made some stupid comment and I punched him in the stomach. He doubled over and ran off, never to be seen again! Trouble was I didn't really want to fess up to that incident when mom came out to see what all the hubbub was about. Didn't turn out too bad because the girl witnessed on my behalf. Last time I ever did that to my recollection.

    I personnaly like Cynthia's!
