As
the mother of three boys and step-mom of one, I understand the
challenges boys can bring. Especially to a woman. Because, let's face
it, they respond differently to mom than they do dad.
Maybe
it's because I'm softer. Maybe it's because my voice isn't as deep.
Maybe it's because they think they can get away with things...
Whatever
the reason for the differing response, I recognize that these young
men-in-training need more than what I can give them.
They need a solid biblical foundation to build their lives on.
They need a relationship with Jesus Christ, the only One who can save them from themselves and their sin natures.
They need a safety net. Angels standing guard over them, protecting them as they experiment and push the limits on life.
They need strength that only God can give.
They
need to learn respect, honor and dignity. For God, for themselves and
for those in authority over them. For people. For life.
They need to develop a character that will glorify God.
As a mother, I know how much of this I can instill in them, teach them, speak into their lives.
And I know my limits. When it's time for their father or God to take over.
Which
is why I can't wait for May 1st to arrive. That's the day I will join
other mommas in praying for our sons. (Not that I don't already pray for
my sons; I do.) That's the day 21 Days of Prayers for our Sons begins.
As I mentioned, I already pray for my sons. The secret is, sometimes I'm not quite sure what to pray for.
Boys confuse me. They act weird. They say things that are a bit off
kilter but amusing. They do things I don't understand and consider
ill-thought. They drive me up the walls and make me want to pull my hair
out. They like beating each other up. They like playing video games.
They like to give me headaches.
So, in taking this challenge, I am hoping to learn about HOW to pray for these wonderful children God has blessed me with.
Because it's my responsibility as their mother to bring them before God
on a daily basis. It's my responsibility to learn to raise them up and
train them in the way they should go, so when they are old, they won't
depart from God's ways. It's my responsibility to pour love and God's
word into their lives. It's my responsibility to see the things God has
placed in them and to encourage them to use those traits, dreams and
desires for God's purposes in their lives.
And
so I'll pray. I'll war for boys. I'll battle on their behalf. I'll
listen to God as He speaks to me about them in that still small voice.
And I'll stand in faith for their futures.
This is GREAT, Alycia! I'll join the group and post that widget on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!
Oh, I agree with you- "they need more than we can give them..." So true. So overwhelming. I'm joining you, friend, and battling right beside you for these sweet boys of ours. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteGreat opportunity! I posted this on my FB page to let moms of boys know!
