Getting to Know You - Week Two

Welcome to "Getting to Know You" week two! I'm so excited to learn more about you, my readers.

This week, let's talk about our dreams. Those things we envision from the depths of our hearts. Those things we pray for and beg God to bring to pass. Those things He's poured into our hearts for us to consider and walk toward in faith, knowing that in His perfect timing they will come to fruition in our lives.

What are your dreams? Do you dream BIG, or do you dream small?

I like to dream BIG. Here is what I dream of:

I dream of a large plot of land with a mountain landscape and bubbling brook at the back of the property. I dream of a ranch with horses and cows and chickens and hunting dogs and barn cats.

This one's in Washington, but they get the idea.
I dream of a 5 bedroom (we have a lot of kids) two-story home with a rocking chair porch lined with columns. I dream of adopting two more children to provide them with a future and a hope. Two children who will be loved and nurtured and taken care of, who will be introduced to the love of Christ as they gain a family.

This One's For Sale! *drool*

I dream of a large red barn and white/black stables.

I dream of hunting parties and horseback rides across the bubbling brook and up the winding mountain trails.

{These are photos I've taken}

I dream of a stable-like "inn" where others such as pastors and their wives, orphaned children and widows can come to relax and revive.
Something like this...only a bit more "rustic."

I dream of a place where we can minister the love of Jesus to others, maybe a small white country church on the corner of our plot of land, a dirt road running up to it.  I dream of giving local people a place to consider community and family all in one. Where we can host barbeques and picnics and music and celebration.
Doesn't this ring peace in your spirit? Photo Courtesy of The IDD Blog

Well, enough dreaming for now...back to work I must go. Don't forget to share your thoughts. What is it you are dreaming of? I'd love to know you more!

  2. Ahhhh, what a lovely dream! My husband is retiring in December. Our dream is to travel the coastal regions of the US. We want to visit the coast of Maine. We want to visit the East coast. We've seen the West coast, but we still want to visit. We love the ocean! What a neat post!!

    1. Julie,
We've also considered traveling after the kids are all grown and have left the nest. We'd love to get an RV and drive back and forth across the country. There are many places we'd still love to see.
I love that you love the idea, too. :)

  3. Wow Alycia....that was awesome:) I got to know a lot more about you!! My aim is to be right where the Lord wants me to be; that is my utmost desire! I just keep doing what I think He wants me to do. But, my dream would be traveling the world photographing God's creation. Flowers, kangaroos, seals, exotic birds, and lions, just to name a few:) Need a new camera and lense first!! Still dreaming........

    1. Judy,
Keep dreaming, because He's definitely given you the gift to do just that! (Her photography is beautiful, everyone. If you haven't, you should check out her blog, where she shares it: http://seeingthroughgodseyesphotos.blogspot.com/)

  4. Stopping by as part of the Come To The Table hop. What a beautiful dream - I would love to travel when my kids are grown (though I have quite a while for that to happen since my youngest is only 4)

    1. Susan,
We would love to travel, too, when our kids are grown. God has so many beautiful places on this earth.
I know your youngest is still quite young. Enjoy the season you're in, and keep dreaming. That season will pass faster than you can imagine. ;)

  5. What sweet dreams, Alycia! And GRAND! Mine is a little smaller. No farm animals, but I do want to live in the mountains with a big yard and a big porch. Swings and rockers. What a great way to start and end the day :)

    1. Susan,
Maybe you and could sit on your porch in the mountains and have a glass of sweet tea on a hot summer day sometime. :) I see ministry happening in those rockers as you pour Jesus' love into womens' hearts.

  6. I love the pictures! What a beautiful dream!

I dream of many things. A big part of that is combining all my strengths and passions (and some of my weak points) into a grand vision (which I'm still deciding if it is possible or not).

I see building up a nonprofit organization (I love grant writing, fundraising, business and anything nonprofit related)
The core of it is women's ministry. There will be Bible studies and such offered, but my heart for this place is for the broken. For the women who have been raped, abused, molested and for sex-trafficking victims. To house them and to make the gospel known to them -- to bring them to the only one who can make them whole. I love watching God take something broken, and create beauty out of it. This nonprofit will care for the needs of these women spiritually, physically, and emotionally. I also want to go to med school to help with putting all of this together to better tend the needs of these women.

    1. Singleseasons,

Have you named that non-profit yet? I keep hearing "Beauty from Ashes". What a beautiful, gracious vision! I heard a pastor speak this weekend, and he said that if we feel called, we should shake the tree and start moving toward it. In other words, let's put our feet to our faith and start pursuing those dreams! It can be a simple step of volunteering at a local crisis pregnancy center, taking one or two classes at a local college to get started, or joining the women's ministry at your local church. Amen?

    2. Beauty from Ashes is a big part of it, yes! :) I hadn't named it yet, but that was a part of what I envisioned for name.
That sounds awesome! Actually I have volunteered at my local PRC. And this year for school my ministry track is with the regional Crisis Pregnancy Center. I also worked this summer at Abundant Life Ministry Center which is the headquarters for a ministry called "A Time to Heal Beyond Survival..." POWERFUL ministry. It's incredible! So I have been learning a lot.
This spring I will graduate with my pastoral license! Taking one step at a time. I got the skeleton of this dream. And I can't wait to watch God put some flesh on it!
